Ingredients:
Onion- 4 large thinly sliced
Potato – 2 boiled till soft
Green Chilli-4 or to taste
Gram Flour / Kadalai Mavu / Besan – 1 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam-1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku-1 tsp
Urad Dal / Channa Dal-1 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal podi / Haldi-1 tsp
Curry leaves- 1 spring
Salt to taste
Oil-3 tblspn
Cilantro / Coriander Leaves – for garnishing
Lemon Juice-1 tsp ( Optional)
Method:
Take cooked potatoes in a bowl and mash it up. Don’t mash it completely, you want some pieces of potatoes in the curry. Now add some salt, turmeric powder, gram flour and mix well.Add some water and make into a smooth mixture.Set this aside for a moment.
Now heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard, cumin, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves and fry for 30 sec.
Add onions and green chillies and mix well.Add salt to this so that the water from the onions comes out and the onions cook till soft. You don’t need to brown the onions here. Cover the pan and cook on a slow flame for 8-10 mins.
Now add the potato mixture in this and some water to make it a thick gravy. Adjust the water as per your wish.
Cover and cook on a slow flame for 10-15 mins. Stir inbetween to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
Add cilantro and lemon juice as per your taste.
Serve this with Poori.
Note:
This masala gets thicker as it cools down, so adjust the water accordingly.
